Workplace health and safety - UNI ISO 45001:2018

In keeping with our own values of focusing on people’s health and safety, CIRFOOD has developed a certified system aimed at continuously improving the catering company and guaranteeing optimal working conditions, as well as reducing the risk of accidents, injuries and occupational diseases.

Standard UNI ISO 45001, which has been in force since 12 March 2018 following a three-year transitional period, will replace British standard OHSAS 18001, which will no longer be in force and therefore certifiable from the 11 March 2021, as a reference point for all companies that choose to certify their health and safety management system.

Developed within the ISO standardisation system with help from experts from over 70 countries, standard UNI ISO 45001 lays down an international framework and can be applied to any organisation, regardless of its size, sector and nature of business. It is also designed to be integrated in existing management processes: in fact, it adopts the same “high-level structure” as other ISO standards on management systems, such as UNI EN ISO 9001 (quality management) and UNI EN ISO 14001 (environmental management).

The potential benefits from applying this standard include reducing workplace injuries and accidents, improving the efficiency of company processes, lowering insurance premiums (as already happened for the previous OHSAS 18001), as well as creating a culture of prevention and health and safety which encourages workers to play an active role, an improvement in workers’ morale, greater commitment among company senior management to improve workplace health and safety performances, a capacity to meet the organisation’s legal and regulatory obligations and an improvement in companies’ image and reputation.

This certification automatically covers all new contracts that CIRFOOD plans to acquire.
